The Neuroimaging workgroup is the advanced competence center for all projects within the University Hospital of Psychiatry in which Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is applied as imaging technique.
A large variety of state of the art methods are applyied for investigations of the structure and function of the human brain (e.g., MRI, Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI), Diffusion Spectrum Imaging (DSI), functional MRI (fMRI), Arterial Spin labeling (ASL), Cerebral blood flow (CBF), Cerebral blood volume (CBV), Cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2)).
The duties of the Neuroimaging workgroup are:
- Guaranty of high quality data, including high signal to noise ration (SNR) and low artefacts (e.g. eddy-current distortions, signal loss in the vicinity of the transitions between gray matter and air, scanner-noise induced into the simultaneously recorded EEG, Partial Volume Estimation and correction (PVE), etc.)
- Development of new analysis methods and improvement of existing techniques.
- Visualization of main results in a multidimensional space.
- Consultancy in ongoing- and planed projects in the field of clinical- and basic neuroscience research.
- Teaching statistical analysis methods, physical background of MRI, design of fMRI experiments (including event-related- and block design) and application of contemporary MR analysis tools (i.e., FSL, FreeSurfer, SPM12, BrainVoyager, AFNI, TBSS, own developments).
