The commonly used traditional diagnostic classification systems for psychiatric disorders are increasingly recognized to be one of the reasons for a lack of innovation and development in psychiatry. It is gradually accepted that psychopathology, e.g. specific symptoms can be observed across clinical diagnosis and have a dimensional aspect. It seems necessary to focus more strongly on the specific link between specific psychopathology – symptoms - and large-scale brain systems to improve the understanding of mental disorder and consequently to develop more efficient treatments and result in a progress of prediction of illness course and prevention in psychiatry. This endeavor is the aim of the Systems Neuroscience of Psychosis (SyNoPsis) project at the University Hospital of Psychiatry.
