Defective emotional regulation is a central feature of psychiatric disorders, suggested as determinant for functional outcome. Importantly, emotional dysregulation is in some cases hard to detect in the clinical interview, which hampers to investigate the underlying pathophysiology. The aim of our research is is to disentangle the underlying neurobiology of emotional dysregulation. Our eventual dream is to effectively improve the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in order to improve patient’s lives. In our view, this would need a great effort of translational research bridging neurobiological, clinical, psychiatric research and more methodologically oriented, basic scientific research.
