Group Michel

Our research group investigates the development, persistence, and clinical relevance of mental health symptoms across adolescence and young adulthood, with a particular focus on psychosis risk, transdiagnostic mechanisms, and early intervention. Using epidemiological telephone interviews, online surveys, and clinical interviews, we examine long-term trajectories, psychosocial functioning, burden, help-seeking behavior, and (self-)stigma in community samples (e.g., BEAR and BEARS-Kid).

In addition, we develop and evaluate innovative, technology-assisted and patient-centered interventions. Current projects include VIRTUE Bern, a Virtual Reality–based ACT intervention targeting transdiagnostic cognitive defusion processes using experimental and randomized designs, Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), and Patient and Public Involvement (PPI). Clinical research is closely linked to the Früherkennungs- und Therapiezentrum für psychische Krisen Bern (FETZ Bern), where a modular, transdiagnostic psychotherapy approach is co-developed and evaluated within routine care for adolescents and young adults.
