Group Wyssen

The research group focuses on the study of eating disorders in children and adolescents, with emphasis on phenomenology, aetiology, and treatment options. Our aim is to enhance understanding of the biological, psychological, and interpersonal mechanisms underlying eating disorder psychopathology, as well as to further develop modern therapeutic approaches and evaluate their effectiveness.

Innovative methods are employed to investigate the biophysiological basis of eating disorders and to examine the impact of weight-related fear and stress responses on therapy outcomes in anorexia nervosa (project WASA). We incorporate factors such as personality functioning, cognitive flexibility, and parental characteristics within a longitudinal cohort study that monitors treatment trajectories (project Cohort Study). Our research aims to broaden intervention options by investigating novel digital approaches (project ELIPSE) that can be integrated into routine clinical care, including app-based parent interventions during waiting periods and app-based aftercare.
